Highlights

Here’s some of the highlights of where we’ve been so far.

This is how I became a local for a year and a half in the Ghost Town of Terlingua. This is how a lot of doggies become locals in the Ghost Town of Terlingua. Our humans break down and get stranded with only change to get by on, their offered a job, fall in love with the town and all it's inhabitants and live on an old school bus with a disco ball. It was one of the most fun times of our lives and we're so lucky that we got stranded there. Viva Terlingua!

This old school bus was our home for over a year while we live in Terlingua. It was outfitted with a sleeper sofa and a table, electricity, running water, a shower and out house and a spectacular view of the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park. We would often entertain friends and have cookouts there and play fetch as well as jam out and sing.

bike & Bixby in Terlingua

My human found the perfect bicycle for this adventure and brought it to the desert to train and get ready for our big adventure. On the 2nd day it got a flat and he really never rode it again for nine months. He was a chain smoker and really was pretty lazy as far as pedaling a bike goes. Finally, after a long Ruff with him, I convinced him that he could do this. He needed to quit the smoking and pick a date and follow through. I can be very convincing when I need to be. This is when I told him “Dreams are like sticks, you just have to chase them.”

After leaving the beautiful desolate deserts of Southwest Texas, gathering up all our gear and convincing my human to set a date and take the plunge, this is where we began our journey. In Galveston, TX in sight of the Pleasure Pier we starting pedaling on May 15th 2013.

We made it to Lake Sam Rayburn late friday night of Memorial Day weekend and immediately made lots of new friends there. We didn't actually plan of being here, or even know that there was a lake here we just happened into it. That's one of my favorite things and telling my human to just go till something looks fun then stop and play.

Only 3 days in and it was really hot. Then, just like a mirage out of some movie, there were about a dozen liters of unopened water bottles that had fallen from someones vehicle just laying on the side of the road. Perfectly good water just left there just for us.

We'll sure never forget Effie and Mitchell from Warren, TX. We took off on this adventure May 15th out of Galveston, TX and within a few days it was already 100 degrees and humid. Mid day we're looking for shade and right there by the side of the road, as if sent right down from Heaven was "Granny's Li'l Produce Stop." Fresh from her garden about 200 feet away were the best Barkin' tomatoes in the whole wide world. I think we ate half a dozen of them right there. So if you're ever find yourself on 287 north of Kountze, TX. Keep your eyes peeled for Granny's Li'l Produce Stop. You won't be disappointed.

About a week into our trek and being that we started this adventure in the middle of May, in Texas, it was already nearly 100 degrees and humid during the day so we were looking for shady spots to rest in the middle of the day. In Warren, TX,  as if sent right down from Heaven, we pulled up to “Granny’s Li’l Produce Stop” where we met humans Effie and Mitchell.  Fresh from her garden about 200 feet away were the best Barkin’ tomatoes in the whole wide world. I think we ate half a dozen of them right there. They were so nice and to this day we have kept in touch with them. We’ve sure made lots of good friends all over the country. So if you’re ever find yourself on 287 north of Kountze, TX. Keep your eyes peeled for Granny’s Li’l Produce Stop and stop and grab yourself some tomatoes. Tell ’em Bixby sent you. You won’t be disappointed.

As we stopped on the shade of the surrounding pine trees to take a rest, I wondered to myself how many humans notice all these pretty flowers that line the road. There’s beauty all around us, sometimes we just have to slow down to notice.

We won’t forget Center, TX. Though the downtown square is pretty cool, it also really stinks there. There’s a giant chicken processing plant there and it smells horrible. Many of the streets were littered with blue hair and shoe nets and ear plugs where humans would leave the plant and throw them on the ground. Chicken Charlie was scared out of his feathers the whole time so we didn’t stay very long.

Finally, here’s our 1st state border crossing. Leaving my home state of Texas and entering Louisiana.

It's was nearly 100 degrees when we entered Shreveport, LA. Luckily, the little human's there showed me how the locals cool off. This fountain was right in the middle of town overlooking the mighty Red River and I can't think of a better place to fetch.

This was our very first Warmshowers host, which is like couch surfing, but for cycle touring. Maurice Loridans and his wife Valarie got us a place to stay while in Shreveport and this guy is one of the biggest bicycle advocates we're ever met. Not only did he and Val show us all over town by bike, but as we were at his house the doorbell rang and it was some neighborhood kids asking if he could help them straighten their bent wheel. He dropped everything and brought them in and started fixing their bikes. We could not have asked for a better host and know it's only a matter of time till they'll be out on a tour themselves.

Both are websites where strangers will host you for free as your traveling so you don’t have to spend money on hotels or campgrounds are far away. Crossing our second state line into Arkansas where we are heading for my human’s family reunion.

How cool is this. We found the birthplace of one of the coolest humans ever. The Human in Black himself Johnny Cash. Let be clear though. I am no Dirty 'Ol Egg Suckin' Dog.

How cool is this. While visiting family in Fordyce, AR, they showed us Kingsland, AR and the birthplace of  the “Human in Black.”

Meet officer Bo Woody of the Camden, AR Police Dept. As we pulled into Camden after visiting family in Fordyce, it was 101 degrees. Luckily it was really humid too. As we sat on a bench in the shade, he pulled up in his squad car to see if we were alright and to ask about our adventure. He had recently ridden a bicycle to New Orleans and back and was eager to help us out. He offered to let us stay at the Police station that night. It was som much fun and we will never forget the hospitality of the Camden, AR Police Depy. and Officer Woody.

Though her name escapes our mind, we will never forget this lady. This was taken on (as of 1-14-15) the most grueling, hard, gross and honestly miserable day of our adventure. We had left Camden, AR early that morning and were heading to Texarkana, AR. While grabbing something to drink at a store a guy convinced us that we should alter our route and take the "short cut" on the "shaded road" with "no hills." To go back in time I may have just bitten that guy. The road was shaded for maybe 5 miles, then the hills started followed by more hills and as the sun rose higher and the temperature rose it started baking the freshly laid asphalt and tar sludge toxic stink of a sticky road that the vapors burnt our eyes. Mile after horrible mile of breathing in that gunk with no relief, then luckily, out of nowhere a Tyson Chicken diesel truck pulls out of a side road in front of us packed full of live chickens that smell like rotting feces and death on their way to the processing plant and it rained down all these whitish urine soaked death feathers as if it were a cruel joke of fake dead chicken snow and as it would pull away another one would pull out of another side road and mile after miles of toxic sludge vapor tar road sticky eye stinging dead chicken urine feather hot horrible I hate this road paved by Satan himself highway that this jerk I should have bitten sent us on. 13 hours and 45 miles later we meet this angel of light and happiness. She had passed us as she went to work that morning from Hope, AR and now hours and hours later she passed us still pedaling. Seeing that we just looked beat and nearly defeated pedaling just fast enough to keep the bike from falling over, she hurried home, grabbed us some water and some snacks and came back and pulled up in front of us and offered it to us. We sat there and talked with here for maybe a half an hour about our journey, the family reunion we were on our way to and the horrible day we had just had. She told us that is we could make it another 8 miles that there would be a room waited for us at a Days Inn in Hope, AR and that we could shower and get a good nights rest. Holy Ruff it was so amazing. We gave her a big 'ol sweaty hug, thanked her so much and pedaled one more hour to one of the best night's sleep we had ever had. I wish so much that I could remember her name. We asked the Hotel, but they couldn't tell us, but I can say without a doubt, name or no name we will never forget her. From that day forward we try to keep in mind that sometimes you have to go through the most difficult, trying, uncomfortable days to meet the most amazing people that just might change your life.

600 miles and 30 days later we made it to the Osborne Family Reunion. Osborne being my human's mother's maiden name. The last time my human went to a family reunion he was fourteen. More than twenty years later he showed up again on a bicycle with me and Chicken Charlie and made quite an impression. He told me that this was the first realization that this journey was going to be very rewarding in that it was already giving him a part of his family back. Humans loose touch with their family for variety of reasons, but it's never too late to get reacquainted.

As we drove to Maine to officially start our cross country adventures, we stopped in Tennessee at the Pigeon River so I could show my human how to raft. He was really scared, but I promised him I would keep him safe.

On our way up to Maine, we decided to stop in Gatlinburg, TN where we knew our friends Jon Hogan and Maria Moss were performing. They are our friends we met while down in Terlingua and are truly the Bonnie and Clyde of traditional folk music. Check out their music here. http://www.reverbnation.com/jonhoganband

Bixby in Lubec

Here’s the Rufftastic little town we started from in Maine. Lubec claimes to be the Easternmost town in the U.S. and there’s a little controversy there for Eastport, ME also claimed to be the easternmost point. To cover the bases we went to both. Either way, we started this trek from the easternmost town in the United States.

There’s a really funny story behind this picture involving the best apples we’ve ever eaten, a middle school and the police. The moral of the story was to really pay attention to where you pitch your tent at night. Needless to say, early in the morning we had to leave.

We came across The Dairy Dream somewhere east of Bar Harbor, Maine and were pretty sure we found where Ice Cream goes to die.

Can't remember exactly where this was in Maine, but fairly certain there's a witch underneath this house somewhere. It looks like if fell out of the sky straight from a tornado.

We never know where we're going to find to sleep on this adventure. Sometimes it's a 200 year old abandoned barn tucked way back off the road.

We never know where we’re going to find to sleep on this adventure. Sometimes it’s a 200 year old abandoned barn tucked way back off the road just west of Ellsworth, ME.

Once inside the barn there was this old trailer filled with debris, but once we emptied it out, it was the perfect place to throw down our sleeping pads and get a great night's sleep. To make sure to scare away anything that may harm us we brought our our Richard Nixon mask and hung it up. nothing dared disturb us.

We never know where we’re going to camp and on this night we found these floating piers that were stacked up in a parking lot right across from the Police station. Figured it was as safe a place as any and we slept like a rock…in a port. Ba Dum Bump (rimshot)

They say Maine Lobsters are the best and I had to convince this one that I had never eaten one. He was really scary and kinda smelled like butter.

How this for a place to camp? We pedaled into Old Orchard, ME around midnight and searched for a place to stealth camp. We found this cozy spot just behind the boardwalk where there’s a fairly creepy looking carnival. The key to sleeping in plain sight is to get up and leave before others show up. Fortunately, the weather was nice and we slept great and the sunrise was beautiful that morning.

Real or not, I don’t like it. He’s looking at me. I saw him move. He looks hungry. I’m bite sized to this guy. He bites me, I bite you human. Take the Ruffin’ picture and get me outta here.

What, you don’t carry an eyepatch with you wherever you go? The how are you going to fit in when you come upon a pirate shit in Massachusetts?

I'm not really into those yucky drinks that humans consume, but that doesn't mean that I don't like the humans that drink them. I've heard the song too and the words are true for us pups as well. "Making your way in the world today takes everything you got..."

piano in Boston

All throughout Boston there were these pianos that were all painted up and put out to encourage people to stop and play them. This guy, dressed in full business attire walked up and he looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Like maybe he had just fired someone or been fired himself, I don’t know, but he sat down, closed his eyes and just started playing this beautiful classical song and we couldn’t help but stay and listen.

Though this picture was meant as an inside joke to some of our friends in Terlingua, TX who play "The Moose" game, it never ceases to amaze me just what a dork he can be in public. Though more of a dork was one friend in Terlingua who had to fake skydive on the ground in front of everyone because of this picture.

We took a ferry from Boston to Provincetown, Massachusetts and it couldn’t have been more beautiful when we arrived. I kept hearing that Ptown is super puppy friendly and they were right.

We arrived into Provincetown, MA and my human decided to let his Freak Flag fly. This is certainly one of the most pup friendly places we've been on this entire trip.

Bixby in cape cod

Headed to the very tip of Cape Cod. About 10 minutes after this picture was take it started pouring down rain and there was no where to keep dry. So what! Didn’t stop us from having a blast and playing fetch in the rain.

The thing about stealth camping in plain sight in front of a public library on Cape Cod is 1) no one expect anyone to be there so though you're virtually in plain sight, no one looks there and 2) free wifi. We may have done this more than a few times in different towns.

We found this really cool garage on Cape Cod south of Ptown and had to stop for a picture. After all, whats more American that a dog on a bicycle with a rubber chicken?

The Truth Is On the Streets.

Reminds me that life is short so treat it like the adventure it’s supposed to be. You only live once (as far as we can prove) so make the most of it.

Meet Joe. He runs a bike shop in Nantucket. He was nice enough to let us use some tools to replace the pedals on our bicycle there. It was really funny to watch how long it took my human to figure out that you have to turn the wrench in the opposite direction to take pedals off a bike. I would have helped, but 1) I don't have opposable thumbs and 2) I enjoyed the entertainment along with the rest of the shop watching him try to figure it out. Joe also gave us lots of advice as where to go while we were on the island. Take my word for it, go to Nantucket, go see Joe at the Nantucket Bike Shop, it's just on the left as you exit the ferry and rent a bicycle to see that beautiful island. It's by far the best way to see it. Tell him Bixby sent you.

Mine!

Mine! We had a bit of a staring contest. This went on for a few minutes till he finally blinked and feeling defeated he pooped then flew away.

After taking the ferry back from Nantucket to Cape Cod, we pedaled to Woods Hole to catch another ferry to Martha's Vineyard. This was a really quaint and beautiful little community.

It used to be a casino for the fancy humans of the area till it burnt down in 1900 leaving only the grant walls. It's now a restaurant and tourist destination as well as a really ruffin' cool building.Apparently even aliens like to come here.

In my humble puppy opinion there are three things that everyone should do. First, go see a Willie Nelson Concert. Second, Go to the Ghost Town of Terlingua and sit on the porch durning sunset and watch the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park change colors and Three, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC. There's so much history there. There's so many humans to watch and talk to from all over the world and...it's absoruffinlutely beautiful.

Not sure why this human is out here in his underwear and a cowboy hat in the middle of Times Square, but he sang “You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog” to me as he flexed a bicep. I here he’s known for this, but I am so much more than just a hound dog.

We were initially very intimidated about pedaling into New York City with all the traffic and humans and all, but once we were there all that apprehension went away and we had the time of our lives. I Ruff New York City and I can’t wait to go back.

We meet Hanna and Mitchell in Atlantic Beach, NC and they let us stay with them a couple days.

How this picture came to be was awesome. We had pedaled already about 40 miles or so and as we approached Atlantic Beach, NC, a girl, we’ll call her Hannah since that’s her name pulled up beside us and asked us if she could take our picture. We said sure and we ended up talking about our adventure for a while and she asked where we were going that evening. As usual the answer is almost always not sure yet, well long story short she invited us to come stay with her boyfriend, Mitchell, also his name, and her for the night and they would show us around. We did exactly that. The next morning it was raining so they invited us to stay another day and were shown the sailboat that these two are now living on sailing around the warm waters of the lower East Coast. Before we left I had to give them a little snuggle time of coarse.

"If you throw the ball, you're going to get it. I don't like it here and I think we should go!" This was a crazy day as we were told that as we left our new friends Hannah and Mitchell from Atlantic Beach and started heading toward Wilmington, NC that they would let bicyclists pass through Camp LeJeune Military Base. Nope. A man awith a gun bigger than me told us we had to go around. I even gave him sad puppy eyes because going around meant more than a 40 mile detour. Puppy eyes don't work with Military guys with huge guns. FYI. So we headed to the Military town of Jacksonville which had more barber shops and tatoo places than we've ever seen in one place and met a nice man who gave me treats because it was "his" birthday.

We 1st heard about Freaker USA while we were still up in Maine. My human is weird and sometimes types random words like booger or poot into google to see what comes up. One day he typed in Freak and eventually these guys came up. They are awesome and hilarious. They make Freakers which are kinda like koozies, but way Ruffin' cooler. Not only do they keep your drinks insulated, but they protect you against the dreaded "Moist Palms." Gross! They make lots of different designs, they're cheap and best of all...they're all made locally. We let them know about our journey and they invited us to see where the freaks work in Wilmington, NC. Learn more about them here. and check out their Facebook page here, they're always funny

We rolled into South Carolina at night and instantly the shoulder of the road disappeared and what road there was was horrible. It was pretty sketchy for a while. Luckily, we have Chicken Charlie, our rubber safety chicken to watch our back.

1st Friday in Brunswick, Georgia.

The Waterfront District of Savannah, Georgia is really cool. Savannah is actually one of the most beautiful cities we've ever been to. We were told that back in the 60's a few human women raised money to save a historic building downtown and were successful and from there really got the towns people involved and starting saving many on the old historic buildings as well as the Live Oak trees. Together they make this city seem like you're stepping back to a time forgotten by most cities.

We pulled into St. Augustine at night. This is what we found.

It was like a winter wonderland in St. Augustine, but way warmer.

A very close call in Ft. Lauderdale. We were standing where that car is like 10 seconds before.

When we pulled into Hollywood, Florida we knew thought we had accidentally ended up on some tropical island in the middle of the Caribbean. Then reality set in and I was almost given a ticket for being on a bicycle on the bicycle path. Though its beautiful here, we didn't find it particularly pooch friendly.

Fort Pierce was so much fun. We got to stay on a boat our first night there, go deep sea fishing, see a Christmas Boat parade and stay on a sail boat for 3 more days and imagine what life at sea would be like. I think I would make a great Captain. Here we are just looking over the water there as the sea gulls were admiring our ride.

These humans may have been the funniest couple we have ever met. They saw us at a farmers market on Key Largo and invited us to stay a couple days with them on Islamorada Key. They took us out of boats, as in plural, introduced us to their friends and had us laughing the entire time. They had a couple best fuzzy friends of their own too. He would constantly pester her and poke fun till she finally had enough and as he was relaxing with a drink in a lounge chair, she came up on a tractor with a fork lift and picked him up to let him know she'd had enough. We will never forget hanging out with them and the hospitality they showed us while we were there. Thank you Deb and Steve.

Here in the Everglade National Park we decided it's probably a good idea to lay off the fetch for a while. "Has anybody seen my human?"

As we entered Florida more than a month beforen we got a message from Kathy, one of our favorite human's in the whole wide world's Mom, and told us that as we get to the gulf side of Florida to come and see her "Bada#$ Island" of Matlacha. Pernounced Matt-la-shay. It took my human many tries to pronounce it correctly. She wasn't kidding though and we stayed on the island for a week meeting all her friends, exploring the island, kayaking and just enjoying the laid back atmosphere of this totally Ruffin' chill place. Pretty sure we made a life long friend in the process. We love ya Kathy and thanks for all your hospitality, and for raising a pretty neat kid too.

We happened upon Navarre Beach, FL just in time for their Mardi Gras Parade. As we pedaled down the street we were invited to hang out with these humans and it turned into a big party. We played fetch all day and had a BBQ and a couple of the even invite us to stay with them that evening. Not bad for simply turning right to go over a bridge just to see what was down there.

I don't know who Ruff Wilson is, but with a name like that he's got to be cool. Sadly, this is the last time we saw Lestah Bear (pictured on the bike). After rescuing him in Cape Coral, FL he was always longing for life on the sea so I suspect he found a ride and sailing the ocean blue once again. I'm quite positive that our paths will cross again.

Definitely one of the most fun nights we had on this journey. We made our way into Mobile, Alabama after sleeping in the woods behind a bank the night before and were invited to a Mardi Gras Ball all dressed up and hub nubbin with the fancy humans. As you can see my human totally behaved himself.

Hey, I'm willing to try just about anything once. After all, it has my name on it and something I'll bet you didn't know...I'm a pilot.

We met up with E-Rock of Epic Tour while in New Orleans. We'd been hearing of this guy for months from other people we met while on the road. He's pedaled over 13.000 miles across the country, peeled the Great Divide Race from Canada to Mexico on back country dirt roads and and he's just warming up. We've now become friends as we've watched each other on our different adventures and we encourage you to check him out on instagram. He'll inspire you to get up off the couch.

We met up with Jeff who's the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Louisiana. He came bearing treats and toys and decided to collaborate while we were in town. We had a radio interview and we we the special guest at a fundraiser and we tried to lend a paw to him anyway we could. This guy is the real deal. We rode around with him one day as he took calls from frantic people who found pets that needed rescued, and he tried to organize fundraising events so he could afford to do more to help more animals. He worked with farmers after the hurricanes of recent years to build hills in their pastures so as the tidal waves would come to shore the animals would have higher ground to flee to. This man lives and breaths animal rights and has one of the most stressful jobs I've ever seen. And yet he's fairly soft spoken and calm and you just want to help him anyway you can for you feel the passion exuding from this man trying to help those whom cannot help themselves. If you live in Louisiana, please consider donating, whether it be time or money or even ideas on how to help this amazing guy and the animals he spends his waking hours trying to save.

In April of 2014 we hitched a ride from Austin, TX back down to our desert oasis in Southwest Texas. While we were there the second annual Voices from both sides was going on where the humans from both sides of the Rio Grande were having a big party to raise awareness for the need to reopen the border at Lajitas, TX so families that live on either side can once again pass freely without fear of getting in trouble. The border has only been sealed for 10 years and it's had devastating effects of the humans that live along the border town. On this one day, there are free to pass back and forth without a passport and they play music and just have fun with their brothers and sisters on both sides of the river. Luckily, us pooches can come and go as we please and no one messes with us. Being a dog has its perks. Just ask my pedaler.

Picher, OK. Where most of my human's family is from. A town that in less then 100 years, was incorporated, became a boom town for lead and zinc mining, slowly dwindled, was bought out by the government for contamination from all the mining, then finally wiped off the map by a huge tornado a few years ago. But this guy decided to stick around and greet those who still come and visit.

After our crash in Centennial we were hoisted to the top of the mountain by our friend Scott and dropped off where we had a 40 mile, mostly downhill ride through the Snowy Mountain Range of Wyoming. It was so Ruffin' beautiful.

After that 40 mile ride we ended up in Saratoga, WY where we found Hot Springs and this beautiful building in a park that 100 years ago was a public toilet. All these years later...I would live there.

My humans injuries ended up being much worse that we thought (torn ligaments in his shoulder and a banged up knee) so we ended up having to hitch rides to a point where we could get out of the big mountains. Thankfully I'm very cute and people can't resist helping me out when my human gets stuck. Here we ended up in Thermopolis, WY where we met Jim who made us an unbelievable deal at The Round Top Hotel and we jammed out in his recording studio, I'm a very talented hound while we rested for several days. If you find yourself in Thermopolis, WY, you should definitely stay with Jim at the Round Top. Be sure to bring your instruments.

Had to take a minute and enjoy the view of Yellowstone National Park. Such a lucky pooch. I hope all my friends, K9 and human have the chance to come here.

Missoula is one of the most beautiful little mountain towns we’ve ever visited. There’s so much to do there and everyone was so friendly. We will definitely be going back to spend more time there.

These wacky humans are my human's parents. Perhaps you can get some idea of why he is the way he is. We wouldn't have been able to make it without though and so glad they we able to meet up with us and have our our adventure with them for a week.

from Bellingham, WA we pedaled up to Blaine, WA at the Canadian Border and made it to Peace Arch Park which is a 10 acre park straddling the border where people and pooches from both side can gather with no need for a passport. Symbolically, there gates in the Arch that are supposed to remain open for us to pass freely. I got to play fetch right through the Arch and we even pedaed through it.

Meet Mona the Camel. She's the unofficial mascot of San Juan Island and she's very enthusiastic about asking you what day it is. Something about a commercial she saw somewhere. If you put a slice of apple in your mouth she'll come up and grab it out of your mouth. Sorta a sloppy camel kiss. Thank you Stephen King(not THE Stephen King) for introducing us.

We never know where we're going to sleep. Sometimes it's a bed in someones house and sometimes it's on a boat trailer in a parking lot. It's all a part of the adventure and as long as I'm with my human, I'm happy.

We originally met these humans in the Ghost Town of Terlingua, TX in the deserts of Southwest Texas. They are a musical duo that'll make you take your hat off and listen. They have an awesome place on Widbey Island and brought us in for a couple nights. Russell even wrote a song for Chicken Charlie the next morning.

Here we are at the famous Pike's Market in Seattle. This is the center of this beautiful city with music in the air and fresh seafood and people from all over the world milling about. I was very popular there as people would stop and take pictures and let me know that they're proud that I've taken my human on such an impressive adventure.

We met Paul Tome from Yuba Bikes who helps us with media along our journey and his girlfriend Katie overlooking the Ferris Wheel at Pier 57 in Seattle. They hung out with us for a day and showed us all around. I was impressed as well that they already knew how to play fetch. Thanks for all your help Paul and so nice to meet you both.

We found Bob's Java Jive in Takoma, WA and though they had no Java when we went by I couldn't help but have "I'm a little Tea dog" go through my head. I learned that song when I was just a Puppy in Austin, TX.

Once and a while we find ourselves caught somewhere when it starts to rain and we have no idea how we're going to find a dry warm place to weather the storm like here at a Shell station in Chehalis, OR. Luckily there are angels watching out for us and this night had a very happy ending.

Humans Greg and Beth from Portland really helped us out a lot while in town. We stayed with them. We played with them. We jammed with them. They even have a tee pee in their back yard, goats for neighbors and live completly car free in this beautiful city. I’m pretty sure I made an impression on them as well for not too long after I left they decided they needed a best friend and adopted a sweet pooch named Velma to help guide them through this adventure called life.20141101_175929 2-picsay20141101_173732 2-picsay20141027_160110 2-picsayDSC00641_2-picsay

Happy Ruff Ruff to me. Eugene, OR threw me the most Barktacular Happy Ruffday Party ever. We rolled into town and Yuba Bicycles set us up with Paul and family from Arriving By Bike Bicycle Shop. They welcomed us into their shop, their home and in fact into their lives for the week we were there. They offered up their bike shop for me to have my 5th birthday at and what a bash it was spectacular. The local news promoted it. The Humane Society, Lovabul Rescue and another pup rescue came out, along with lots of other local pups, humans and kids. We had cake, baloons, bubbles, and lots of fetch during the party. Everyone evan sang Happy Ruff Ruff to me. It was by far the greatest party this pooch has ever been to. Thank you so much Paul and the entire staff at arriving by bike for making us feel so special. If you finf yourself in Eugene, OR and your want to ride in style the way I do, go to Arriving By Bike and they'll set you up with a Yuba Bike or your very own and take my word for it, you'll be able to teach your human to pedal you around in no time.

"Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vines, to set on your tables your light sparkling wine.." This reminds me of the Green Pastures of Plenty that one of my favorite troubadours Woody Ruffrie used to sing about. This was taken just north of Cloverdale, CA.

I always hate to see this. This poor pup is tied up to a tree, surrounded by acres of land that he can't run around on. There is a lead there, but it's tangled up on a tree and you can see by the grass where this poor pup can move. He's got it better than some pups we've come across, he has a shelter to get in, but it surely makes me feel lucky to be with my human on the journey of a pups lifetime.

We finally made it to Petaluma and Yuba Bicycles World Headquarters. Not only do they make the best bikes ever, but the people who work there are pretty rad too. They’re a busy bunch, but can always find a few minutes to take some goofy pictures and make us feel welcomed. As usual Chicken Charlie started squawking some cluckin’ nonsense so we had to calm him down.

This Guy! This is Steve Bode of Yuba Bikes and having only spoken on the phone a few times he called us up as we approached Petaluma and at first asked us about storing a carrot, then invited us to take a few days off and make a road trip down to LA for the CICLAVIA ride. So glad we did. Not only did we get to see lots of sights along the way, but Ciclavia is this incredible event in LA where they block off about 10 miles of street in Downtown and turn it over to bicycles. It was so much fun. There were bands and concessions and the weather was warm and even the Travel Channel saw us and interviewed us there. Once back to Petaluma, he let us stay in his camper at the KOA camp for a week while he commuted back and forth to Sausalito. Hey Steve, thank you so much for hooking us up and making us feel so welcomed as we entered your part of the world.

Look where we're at. We waited for 2 hours for the fog to lift before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. We finally gave up and just decided to cross anyway. As soon as we started to cross...the fog dissipated and the City and the bridge emerged. I will never forget our welcome into Beautiful San Francisco. We're in San Francisco!!!

Our first night in San Francisco we made our way to Oakland to hang out with our friends Tim and Noah Hussin, The Coyote Brothers, that we originally met in Big Bend National Park in November of 2011. At the time they were on their own cross country bicycle adventure making a documentary called America Recycled. We ended up camping together a few nights then we all found our way to the Ghost Town of Terlingua where they hung out a couple months and we ended up breaking down and living there for a year and a half in a school bus overlooking the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend. We thought their journey was so inspiring that I convinced my human that we could do it to. Be sure to check out Americarecycled.org. staring in part, this dog.

We pedaled through the Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco and found the apartment where Jimi Hendrix used to live. Not sure what Purple Haze meant, but it sorta smelled funny around there.

We have been on a pretty incredible journey.

After spending just over a week in Santa Cruz we watched our last sunset at West Cliff. This is one of the most beautiful places we've been and it's nice to see so many people taking time out of the day to come and watch the sunset. We could totally se ourselves living here and we even found a Bixby Street. Is that a sign?

Holy Ruffin' Wow! Just when I think the California coast can't get more beautiful, we pedal into Monterey Bay and my doggie mind is blown. Not only is it gorgeous there, but they have some Rufftastic Shelters as well. Like the Peace of Mind Dog Rescue that specializes in rescuing my elderly cousins. They even let us stay with them while we were there.

Pacific Grove is Ruffin’ beautiful and we had had a great stay there and learned about Peace of Mind Animal Rescue who focuses on elderly and special needs dogs. On this day it rained for a while, but that’s the only way to get a rainbow.

Dubbed the most dog friendly place in the USA I can see why. That entire beach behind us there in the picture...Dog beach. The restaurants, shops, banks and Hotels are so friendly to us pooches. This was a very special experience for us as y the time we left, we had gotten to stay at several fancy hotels and even received a hand written letter from Doris Day thanking us for our plight to help other animals find their humans to take care of.

We arrived into San Luis Obispo and instantly fell in love with this place. From the people humans and doggies we've met, to the Thursday Farmers Market to all the friends we've made from the Apple Store where we have easily spent 100 hours thanks to a very special gift from a pooch named Charlie in the form of a MacBook and training to learn to use it and edit videos. While my human pushes buttons and stares at the computer screen, I get to walk around and get belly rubs from all the humans that work there. It was also great that we met the most incredible family that hosted us way longer than we've stayed anywhere for the past 2 years. Needless to say...We enjoy the SLO life.

We arrived into Pismo Beach, CA the morning of the AMGEN Tour (Largest street bike race in North America). I was talking to one of the riders and asked him how much his bike weighed. He replied 12 1/2 pounds. I couldn't help but laugh as I had more then 12 pounds of water on our bike.

I came across this little Fred Astaire and he asked me if I knew how to dance. Well, yes I do and I'm always excited to show off my moves. I'm very light on my paws if I don't say so myself.

Just because they have big teeth does't mean their going to bite. This poor guy has had a cavity for a long time and has just stood here waiting for someone to come and help him out. Luckily I came strolling by and was able to help him out. We stayed with a dentist once and I read a book on how to fix cavities. He has one less tooth now, but he no longer in pain.

We met this little human and his family while in Encinitas and they invited us to come and stay with them for a few days at their place about 8 miles inland. We're so glad we did and had so much playing music and swimming and getting to know these fun humans.

We made the front page of the local Encinitas Newspaper and everywhere we went during the week we were there humans big and small would yell out my name and want to pet and play fetch with me and give me treats. I could get used that.

We were paying down the street in Cardiff, CA when we came across this place with the best name of any store ever. Someday I'm going to own a store called Bixby and Ball and i will sell balls of all shapes and sizes. I may open another place called Bixby and Sticks. Wonder what I'll sell there?

We met Tish here and she offered to pick up my human and I along with all her doggie friends and take us to the beach for a little morning exercise. This is what she does for a living and as humans are at work, she take their pups to play for the day. What a great idea! Who want to be stuck inside all day?

The day after our bicycle was stolen in Mission Beach (Missing Beach according to the locals) a local ABC news reporter saw the man who stole our bike riding it and stopped and confronted him and called the police. The next day we got it back. How lucky are we?

A couple days later an observant human spotted my bed by a dumpster nearly 20 miles away and looked up our website and messaged us as to its location. I'm so happy to have my favorite perch back.

Austin, TX is the city of my birth and where my human has lived most of his adult life. I loved it there, but ultimately the road called our name and now I've gotten to see more of this country than any other dog I know. I'm so glad my human listened to me and decided to let me take him on such an amazing adventure.

We had the chance to go back and visit our friends in the Ghost Town of Terlingua on our way back to California to start our Electric World Record breaking tour. Never a dull moment there, we enjoyed hanging out with Sampson (the mule) and all the other characters that call that desert paradise home.

As we were rolling along we had a big scare. We looked over and saw what looked to be Snoopy's red dog house all dilapidated and empty. It looked as though it had fallen from the sky and just been abandoned there. Fortunately, we have now confirmed that Snoopy is alive and well and this was just a old look alike that is no longer in use. Whew! Long live Snoopy.

I'm not sure that my human understood that Avenue of the Giants was referring to the Giant Redwood Trees abound. He's convinced that we were going to find the Jolly Green Giant and Paul Bunyan out there. Sometimes he's so embarrassing.

I didn't understand this, but my human told me that when he was young this video game was all the rage. Something about a little Italian Man jumping on turtles, slaying dragons and searching for magic mushrooms all to save a princess? Whatever, he seemed to have fun with the mural so I'm glad we stopped.

As we left Bend, OR the towns quickly got further and further apart and sometimes we would go more than 100 miles in-between towns. Luckily during this time, we were accompanied my my humans parents who decided to tag along with us on their vacation. After pedaling 140 miles, we found this spot on the side of the road and decided to call it a night. It was an incredible spot to camp. I ruff camping with my human and I always warn him if anyone or anything creeps up in the middle of the night.

Salt Lake City, Utah is breathtaking, but you have to watch out for the little blue men in spaceships that follow you around. Thank goodness Chicken Charlie was there to keep them at bay.

Not until we really explored this country by bicycle did we really realize just how much of the land is occupied by corn fields. Now I love corn as much as the next dog, but I can't help but wonder if we couldn't use all these millions of acres to grown something more than just corn.

How cool is this mural on the side of a building in Hot Springs, Wyoming? I can just imagine pedaling right into that scene. Little did I realize at the time that we actually would pedal right into that scene a couple days later.

Holy Ruff this was awesome. As we pedaled through Custer State Park an entire herd of Buffalo crossed the road in front of us. It took over an hour for them to cross and then we slowly, and quietly pedaled passed them. This is one of the absolute highlights of our journey so far.

Started in 1948 by an eccentric human and his family, Crazy Horse, when completed, will be the largest monument of its kind in the world. Larger than the pyramids in Egypt, and dwarfs Mount Rushmore, there's still a long way to go. Decades I'm sure so I won't get to see it completed, but it's an incredible site to witness.

Maybe my favorite place we've ever camped, this was taken at the KOA Kamp at the base of Devils Tower, Wyoming. This is the place to stay if you go there. Not only are there epic views of the tower, but each night at 8pm, they play Close Encounters of the Third Kind on a big TV outside in the shadow of the tower. It was so much fun. The next day we sculpted a replica of the tower out of mashed potatoes and waited for the aliens. My human was kind of scared, but I assured him that it would be okay.

We were incredibly lucky to get to pedal through Badlands National Park. It had been over 100 degrees for days then all of a sudden a cold frond came through and lowered the temps into the low 80's. We took that as a sign and pedaled right through the heart of this majestic place.

When visiting the capital of South Dakota we got to hang out with one of my humans high school friends he hadn't seen in more tha20 years. It's so funny that all that time can pass and yet because of your history you fully trust them and you just kinda pick up where you left off twenty years ago. We stayed with them for 2 nights and and had a blast. I hope we get to hang out with them again before another 20 years goes by.

Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD is perhaps the most awesome park in any town. It's massive and there are so many little waterfalls and rocks to observe them from. We had a rocky entrance getting into this town, but once there,we were embraced by this close knit community. We will definitely be going back.

To know my human is to know that he thinks that the Red Headed Stranger is the coolest living Human in the face of the earth and while we were in South Dakota we learned that he would be preforming at a sold out show in Sioux Falls in a few days. Assuming that if we made it there the universe would provide us with tickets to get in we set off in that direction. About 30 miles north of town our rear wheel blew up and we wrecked pretty hard on the side of the freeway. I got a big cut on my paw and human was banged up real good, but luckily we had a host lined up and when we told them of our predicament he dropped what he was doing, borrowed a truck, picked us up, got me to a vet for stitches and our bike to a bike shop where Yuba overnighted us a new wheel. Turns out our host owned a magazine in town and pulled some strings and got my human into the Willie show. Another fan hooked us up with a Hotel in Downtown to recover and relax so while my human was singing along with his idol, I was living the good life on a huge bed with lots of treats overlooking this incredible city. Dog Bless Willie Nelson.

Our adventure there started out pretty rufftastic playing fetch in the harbor and pedaling the bike paths, unfortunately it was kind of an off day and we ended up leaving after a few hours to find a place smaller with less humans all crowded together.

Such an incredible homecoming of sorts to return to the Easternmost Town in the USA three years after we had pedaled out of there to start the big part of our journey. Upon our return so many people remembered us and welcomed us back as if no time had went by at all. We ruff that little fishing town and are quite sure we'll be making that town a regular stop for the rest of our lives.

Three years prior as we pedaled through East Machias, ME we pedaled past this apple tree. As we did, my human reached up and grabbed an apple and took a bite. He swears it's the best apple he's ever eaten and turned the bike around and picked off every apple he could reach. Three years later as we passed though there again he immediately recognized the tree and we stopped to see if they were as good as he remembered. I can honestly say, and yes I too tried these delicious red balls of yumness, the best apples in the whole wide world grow on a tree by the side elf the road in East Machias, Maine.

I found my perfect purple and pink Princess Palace in Milbridge, ME. It's located on a big lot (plenty of room for fetch) with a breathtaking view of the water behind it. I think I would make the round room on the top my room and I could grow my hair out like Rapunzel and wait for my Prince Charming to walk by below.

As we pedaled through the Maine countryside there were these huge fields low lying red fauna that sat in deep contrast against the otherwise green backdrop of the trees and other plants. When we stopped to play a game of fetch in this red carpet of nature we realized that they were actually wild Maine Blueberries and they were delicious. I know what you're thinking, "Dogs don't eat blueberries". Says who? I'm not sure who ate more, my human, Chicken Charlie or myself. Maine is a magical land where tasty treats grow wild on the ground and in the trees everywhere.

We made our way to the Island of Nantucket for the second time and Holy Ruff the fun we had. When we came there the first time we befriended Joe Conway of the Nantucket Bike Shop and have remained in touch through social media every since. So when we came back three years later Jow was there to greet us and let us stay in an apartment above the bike shop for a few days while we explored the island. One the first night, he took us out on a boat with his friends on what would be an epic sunset over the lighthouse on the entrance to the harbor. We were surprised at how many other people on the island remembered us there as well and right now, as I type this, we are on the front page of the Nantucket Newspaper as well. How fun is that?

Saw you and your human in Santa Rosa, CA this afternoon. Have been enjoying looking at your website with my kids.. They had to go to bed, but I told them they could see more tomorrow. What fabulous adventures! I’ve been to the Buckhorn in Laramie, WY :). Rufftastic Bixby!

So sorry to have missed you here in L.A.! The t-shirt will be here tomorrow. Totally fascinated with Bixby and his markings. We have a dog that must be his! What is the breed or combinations thereof? Good luck on your journey and feel free to contact us if you come back through Long Beach! Mike & Sara

Welcome to Bend, Oregon Bixby!!!!! This is one big dog loving town. Enjoy all the beauty as well as the dog parks. Mike, you are such an inspiration to all those who love our adopted pets. I too have one. Captain Axle and I have been buddies for two years this August. He is a premium mix of lab, retriever, ???, and most of all a bundle of bounding joy. Keep up the awesome work.
